Sensei Todd Irvine has taught martial arts for over 40 years. He began training with his father, but because of his father's work schedule, he soon began training with Hanshi Kevin Gurganus in Durham, NC and began teaching under his guidance soon thereafter.
After graduating from college, Sensei Irvine moved to around the country several times, finally settling in Flowery Branch Georgia in 2012, where he began training with Kyoshi-Sei Larry Griffin and joined the International Karate and Kobudo Union.
Sensei Irvine most recently earned the rank of San dan under Soke Joseph Ruiz, the head of the IKKU and has started teaching in St. Petersburg now that he has moved to Florida, but continues to train with his former instructors.
We teach Kotosu-Ha Shito Ryu. Our system's founder, Soke Ruiz, compiled the style from his three instructors and now passes on their teachings to the IKKU members.
Our style follows traditional Japanese and Okinawan principles and focuses on effective self-defense. We also train Kobudo and Kempo for our advanced students.
